The I-Range is often a users first entry point into the Raymarine brand. At a lower price point to the rest of the range, our challenge was to make sure that the product felt as premium as the E Range of products but manufactured at a fraction of the cost.
Working closely with the internal team we conducted a series of technical discussions to understand the constraints and internal CAD data. This allowed us to push the boundaries of how much Raymarine Design DNA we could include in the product, without ramping up the cost per unit.
A range of concepts were produced which showed a range of forms, details and keypad configuration, demonstrating what functionality and features could be included at the set price point.
Foam models were then produced to visually check surface treatments and make sure the DNA of the Raymarine range was inherent in the form factor. All external surfaces were then modeled in 3D CAD for production and then sent to the Raymarine mechanical team for production process, saving time and confusion across the production process.
The CWD team always bring refreshing ideas into the design of Raymarine's marine products, through their use of focused research they ensure a practical but attractive solution to boating electronics.
